Key Findings:
Partially-treated and untreated sewage drain into creeks, rivers and the sea in and around Mumbai
Water quality of these aquatic bodies are deteriorating
Waste treatment plants have no facility to treat faecal coliform
Most plans to provide sanitation facilities in slums seek to build toilets without providing connections to sewer lines
Government Master Plan slated to be completed by 2025 seeks to collect and treat waste water generated in Mumbai in modern sewage treatment plants to meet all environmental standards, including treating faecal coliform to stipulated levels, and also recycle and reuse the treated waste water in industries and horticulture
